Mandate

Under the supervision of the Vice President, the Director of Human Resources will lead all activities related to the human resources function for our Canadian units. This person will act as an advisor to management and employees at both the operational and strategic levels. In collaboration with the Human Resources Generalists, the incumbent will act as a lever in achieving the company’s business objectives. Here is an overview of the responsibilities that the person will fulfill:

Responsibilities

  • Accompanies, supports, coaches and advises the management and supervisory teams on human resources best practices.
  • Develops procedures, policies and programs that will equip both employees and managers in their responsibilities, their ways of doing things and in achieving their objectives.
  • Identifies and implements performance indicators related to talent management, retention rate, adherence to deadlines, budget, employee satisfaction and HR service quality.
  • Create and implement an ambitious recruitment strategy.
  • Implements a talent and performance development plan and monitors it with the managers of each division.
  • Manages various employee issues, such as through mediation and management of disciplinary procedures.
  • Oversees the full cycle of recruitment, onboarding, training and development.
  • Ensures that pay equity is maintained.
  • Support Health and Safety programs to ensure and promote a safe work environment (OHS file management for all provinces).
  • Ensures the complete management of employee relations, work accident and disability files.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations and best practices in employment law, talent management, important transportation news and human resources.

Candidate profile:

  • Experienced generalist: Good knowledge of the various fields of HR expertise in relation to the Canada Labour Code in order to fully understand the issues related to each aspect. Knowledge of transportation is recommended.
  • Change management : Solid experience because C.A.T. is a growing company!
  • Hands-on approach: You will be involved in the day-to-day management of all HR practices such as benefits or disability case management, employment equity, and talent acquisition.
  • Analytical and informed: Programs will need to be adapted to Canadian laws and culture.
  • Interpersonal: You will be required to work closely with a variety of people in different departments to achieve organizational goals. The individual must have an ease in building relationships.
  • Communication : Fluently bilingual as C.A.T. has offices and terminals in several Canadian provinces. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively.

Qualifications:

  • A university diploma in human resources management or industrial relations, or any other relevant training.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in HR management, 5 of which were in an HR Director position.
  • Strong knowledge of federal legislation.
  • English and French bilingual (written, spoken, read).
  • Knowledge of provincial health and safety laws.
  • Knowledge of group insurance.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
